The Difference Between Mobile Notorizations and Remote Online Notorizations

Feature

Mobile Notarizations

Remote Online Notarizations

Definition

The Notary Public travels to the client’s location to perform notarizations in person. The Notary Public provides a personalized experience for clients in the comfort of their home, business, or a mutually agreed upon location.

A notarization is completed using digital tools and video conferencing technology. The NV Secretary of State approves the use of all technology platforms. Notaries pay a monthly or yearly fee to use the platform, and a fee for each stamp placed on documents, and more.

Convenience

High for clients who are not able to travel or want the convenience of the Notary to come to their location.

High, as all parties can participate from any location with internet access.

Technology Requirements

Minimal, as the notarization is done in person with physical documents.

Requires a stable internet connection, webcam, and access to the platform providing RON services.

Geographic Flexibility

Limited to the Notary Public’s ability to travel to the client’s location. Travel details are agreed upon in advance of the appointment.

Unlimited, if the notary and the signers are in jurisdictions that recognize RON.

Availability

Dependent on the Notary Public’s schedule and ability to travel.

Often available 24/7, making it convenient for urgent notarizations.

Security

Standard notarial practices ensure security. State specific requirements are in place for all notaries to follow to protect sensitive client information.

Enhanced with digital certificates, e-signatures, and secure video recording of the notarization process. State requirements ensure the highest level of security.

Cost

Cost to client may be higher due to travel expense. Pricing for travel is dictated by NV statute. Travel discounts may be offered by the Notary Public during special coupon promotions. In Nevada, pricing is per signature on documents, not per notarial stamp.

Cost to client may be lower or comparable, but without additional travel costs. In Nevada, the notary fee is per electronic signature. The Notary Public pays the platform provider for each Remote Online Notarization. A percentage of the fee charged to the client goes to the platform provider.

Legal Recognition

Widely recognized. All notarial acts are performed in compliance with Nevada Revised Statutes.

Increasingly recognized in most states. Nevada is one of those states. The Notary Public must be physically located in the state of Nevada when performing all remote online notarizations.

Speed of Process

Dependent on the Notary’s and client’s availability and the travel distance.

When all parties are ready and meet all requirements for a remote online notarization, the speed of process can be relatively quick.

User Experience

User experience is personalized and is face-to-face in a physical location offering opportunities for clarification and guidance.

Efficient and convenient, though is dependent on the user’s comfort with technology and the platform’s interface.
